American Guild of Organists
The American Guild of Organists is open to membership for organists, choral directors, and others interested in the areas of organ and church music. The local River Valley Chapter of the AGO is open to UI students and sponsors annually public workshops and recitals.
American String Teachers Association
The Iowa Student Chapter of the American String Teachers Association is a professional organization for all of those currently or will be engaged in string teaching in the broadest sense, including string and orchestral educators in a k-12 program, pre-collegiate and collegiate studio teachers, students, conductors, and performers. Membership in this organization provides access to local and regional experts in the field, as well as the opportunity to learn and network with educators at the ASTA National Conference, the largest industry related conference in the country. Membership also includes a subscription to the award-winning American String Teacher journal, and full access to the ASTA website filled with string related job listings, professional development programs, and affordable insurance to string instruments. Any student involved in playing or teaching any string instrument is welcome to join.
Collegiate Chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME)
The student chapter of NAfME exists to provide opportunities for professional development for students, and to acquaint them with the privileges and responsibilities of the music education profession. NAfME gives its members opportunities to become acquainted with leaders in the music education profession through participation in programs and demonstrations, discussions, and performing groups planned by this chapter, the state Music Educators Association, and the National Association for Music Education. Included in the dues are the monthly Music Educators Journal, the national publication NAfME, as well as the Iowa Music Educators Journal, recognized as one of the finest of its kind.
The UI Collegiate Chapter of NAfME has elected student officers and meets twice a month to discuss various issues pertinent to future music educators. The chapter maintains a Facebook page where members share ideas, teaching materials, and information on upcoming events: cNAfME Facebook page

Music Therapy Student Association
The Music Therapy Student Association is an organization that offers friendship and support, reinforcement of music therapy concepts through interaction with music therapists and other music therapy students, sharing of activity ideas, and lecture workshops by music therapy professionals.
The main goal of the Music Therapy Club is to improve the student's knowledge of music therapy as a practice and a profession. Membership shall be open to declared music therapy majors, all persons enrolled in classes pertaining to the use of music as therapy, and all persons engaged in the professional use of music in therapy. Membership in the Music Therapy Club does not restrict eligibility for any other organization; be it social, professional, student government, or otherwise specified.
National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS)
Founded in 1944, National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc. (NATS) is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world with more than 7,000 members in the United States, Canada, and over 35 other countries. NATS’ mission is centered on encouraging the highest standards of the vocal art and of ethical principles in the teaching of singing and promoting vocal education and research at all levels.
The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) fosters the formation of student chapters in order to advance knowledge about the Association and the professions of teaching and singing. A Student NATS (SNATS) Chapter is an organization of students that can meet, hold events and discussions, participate, practice, and learn more about voice teaching as a profession.
Pi Kappa Lambda
Pi Kappa Lambda is an honor society in the field of music. Students with exceptional grade-point averages and acknowledged musical excellence are issued invitations once a year.
Sigma Alpha Iota
Sigma Alpha Iota is an international music fraternity open to any woman. This is inclusive of cisgender and transgender women as well as non-binary and gender nonconforming students who do not identify as male. The Zeta Epsilon chapter at the University of Iowa is dedicated to furthering high-quality musical endeavors at the University, having sponsored "A Week of Women in Music" and funding a commission from a woman composer. In addition, the Zeta Epsilon chapter supports national SAI philanthropies such as The People-to-People Music Project and MacDowell. The Zeta Epsilon chapter performs service projects in the Iowa City area and participates in fundraisers to benefit the School of Music.
Women are eligible to join beginning the second semester of the freshman year. The minimum, overall cumulative grade point average required for membership is 2.5 and a prospective Member-in-Training must have completed or be currently enrolled in one or more courses in music. After recruitment week, Members-in Training spend four to six weeks learning about the fraternity before initiation.
