Choir Auditions

Auditions will be held August 20, 21, 23 and 25. Please email david-puderbaugh@uiowa.edu with any questions. 

Campus Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Auditions

Students interested in auditioning for CSO (Campus Symphony Orchestra for non-majors) should email music-orchestra@uiowa.edu to schedule an audition.

University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra (UISO) Auditions

UISO Audition Process

String Auditions (Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass)

Audition Dates: August 24–25, 2026 (location and audition times will be announced in August)

These auditions play an important role in ensemble placement and will be used to identify students for consideration for principal positions, solo and chamber music opportunities, and string rotation assignments.

Advanced non-music majors interested in participating in UISO are also encouraged to audition. Non-major students who are not selected for UISO will automatically be considered for placement in the Campus Symphony Orchestra (CSO).

First-Time UISO Auditionees: Students auditioning for UISO for the first time must prepare all required orchestral excerpts and one solo selection of their choice (maximum 1 minute). Returning students are not required to perform a solo.

Woodwind and Brass Auditions

Woodwind and brass students will audition through the School of Music band audition process. Placement in UISO will be determined by the audition committee in consultation with applied faculty. Audition information: https://bands.uiowa.edu/concert-bands/auditions

Black Pop Music Ensemble Auditions

BPM auditions will take place during the first week of classes each semester, Wednesday evening 6-9 pm. Students must sign up for an audition time slot in person. 

Audition sign-up sheets and information packets (including audition instructions and location) will be available as of the Monday prior to the start of classes in the jazz studies area of the Voxman Music Building – 4th floor, on the very southeast corner of building.

University Band Auditions

Students may register for the University Band (MUS:3160:0003, 0-1 hour credit) without an audition and attend the first rehearsal. Rehearsals are from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on Monday (and occasional Wednesdays during the football season) during the fall semester, and 6:30-8:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday in the spring semester.
