Description

 Leah Jottenby

~30s

F

The creator of Space Jaunt, a sci-fi serial with a cult following. She’s bold, unique, and refuses to be ignored.

George Barrows

~30s

M

Creator of Beers, a popular sitcom that takes place in a bar. He’s a people person, and he knows how to take charge in a conversation.

Eric Grantham

~40s-50s

M

CEO of Cardinal Network Television, and Executive Producer of both Space Jaunt and Beers. The archetypal bean-counter, he cares only for keeping budgets low and profits high.

 Captain Jerymiah Holt/Gordon Walters

~40s-50s

M

HOLT is the handsome captain of The starship USS Hansberry, and he exudes quiet confidence.

GORDON has a British accent when he’s not in character as HOLT. He is much more laid back than his character, getting along well with his castmates.

Number One/Mallory Theroux

~20s

F

NUMBER ONE is the First Officer on The Hansberry, always referred to by her nickname, NUMBER ONE. She is HOLT’s right-hand man and gets along well with the entire crew.

MALLORY is a thoughtful, confident young actress who is having a ball being on Space Jaunt. She looks up to LEAH, as she wants to do more than just act, she wants to write and direct as well.

Lurg/Albert Brackner

~30s

M

The helmsman of the Hansberry. He is a member of an alien race called the Cyrakons. Cyrakons have light blue skin, long noses (like “Cyrano de Bergerac”) and highly defined cheekbones.

ALBERT takes his role on Space Jaunt very seriously, and he doesn’t mind showing up three hours earlier than the rest of the cast to have his alien makeup applied.

Pat/Sally Green

~70s

F

The owner and bartender of Pat’s Pub. She’s a master of gossip who knows every one of her customers and likes to play matchmaker.

SALLY is a beloved and famous actress who has been around long enough to appear on both The Ed Sullivan Show and Jay Leno.

Jackie/Jacob Wheathers

~20s

M

A bumbling busboy at Pat’s, speaks with a New Jersey accent. He thinks he’s much cooler than he is and is prone to clumsy falls and spills.

JACOB similarly lacks self-awareness, as the C-list fame of sitcom stardom has completely gone to his head. JACOB does not speak with a New Jersey accent.

Jenny/Alison Abney

~20s

M

JENNY, played by ALISON ABNEY – A waitress at Pat’s, and PAT’s granddaughter. She grew up in the bar and has been working there since she was 14.

ALISON is ready to move on from Beers. She appreciates what the show has done for her career but knows she has more potential.

Synopsis

Home Is Where the TV Is a play about the connections between theatre and certain kinds of television, and the way television affects our lives, through a parody lens of two classic shows: Star Trek and Cheers.

"Space Jaunt" showrunner Leah Jottenby finds out her budget is being cut into by her rival, "Beers" showrunner George Barrows, and they clash at a production meeting.

When George makes a snide remark about a crossover episode between the two shows, their boss Eric Grantham demands the crossover be produced.

Leah and George are forced to put their differences aside and work together to combine their passion projects together, and the casts of both shows are caught in the crossfire.

Will they succeed and create the best episode TV has ever seen? Or will this crossover tear Cardinal Network Television apart?

Notices

This show includes light sexual content and references, as well as discussion of stereotyping.

The six members of the cast who are playing the casts of Space Jaunt and Beers will take on double roles, as both the characters and their actors.

Notes

49

LEAH leans back in the chair behind ERIC’s desk, clearly enjoying herself, hardly able to contain her pleasure. After a moment, ERIC enters, followed by the rest of the cast. LEAH immediately sits up in the chair, trying to play it cool.

GEORGE slowly stands up from behind the desk. Everyone gasps as they realize what they walked in on.

George and Leah participate, the rest of the cast witnesses.

At the end of the show, George is caught under Leah's desk performing oral sex. This will be completely obscured from the audience, only requiring the actor for Leah to act out her reaction and George to be hiding behind the desk. No clothes need to be removed, and no actual physical contact is needed.
